The FIA World Motor Sport Council approved an expanded 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship calendar, unveiled at the traditional pre-Le Mans press conference on 12 June 2026. The season will open with a Prologue test at Qatar's Lusail International Circuit in late March, followed by the Qatar 1812km, before a European block including Imola, a long-awaited return to the United Kingdom's Silverstone Circuit after an eight-year absence, Spa-Francorchamps and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The season then travels to Interlagos in Brazil, Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Fuji Speedway and Bahrain.

Alongside the calendar, the FIA, ACO and IMSA jointly outlined the long-term technical direction for the Hypercar class, confirming a single converged platform will take effect from 2030, ending the current era in which manufacturers can choose between LMH and LMDh-spec cars. Under the new rules, all Hypercars will be rear-wheel drive only, dropping the four-wheel-drive systems used by current LMH manufacturers such as Toyota, Ferrari, Peugeot and Aston Martin, with a minimum weight target above 1,040 kilograms and roughly 20 kilowatts more power than today's cars.

FIA chief technology officer Xavier Mestelan Pinon said manufacturers would retain freedom over engine architecture and could choose between a bespoke chassis and hybrid system or an off-the-shelf solution built around a licensed constructor's chassis, similar to the current LMDh model. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the championship continues to go from strength to strength with record attendances and 14 manufacturers on the current grid.

No African circuit featured among the rounds announced for 2027, though the WEC's growing manufacturer roster and global footprint keep it on African Grand Prix's watch list as a series that could eventually consider the continent, much as Formula 1 is now doing with Rwanda.
